Today’s irrational belief that keeps folks from completing a novel:

I can’t finish my novel. I’ve written some but I don’t know what comes next so I’ll stop until it comes to me.

No. Wrong. Get back to work.

Stopping when you can’t think of what to write is the last thing that you want to do. You’re employing the irrational belief that some creative notion will magical appear to you when you’re rested, your mind is clear or when you are inactive.

Creativity flows as a by product of work, it is not hindered by it. You may have to try a few things and them discard them but that process will yield more than inactivity. The thought of writing something only to discard may make you want to hurl but that’s how this crap works.

Okay? Good.

Now, ass on chair, fingers on keyboard- go write!

Wow! That was aimed right at me. Guilty. Have to quit farting around and set the time aside and put some effort into it. Have been doing exactly what you said and it clearly is not making me productive. Just got my first and only book submitted for conversion to e book today so it is time to get something else in hard copy! Thank you very much for the “kick in the pants”. It was sorely needed.
