What’s your name, your store’s name and address and how long have you  been in business?

I am Ed Kaufman and I am the owner. We have been in business 13 years.

Do you have a specialty?

We are primarily a specialty store featuring mystery, crime, thriller and related subjects such as espionage, true crime, etc.  We are also carrying on a selected basis literary and general fiction.  The greatest proportion of our sales are current author signed books, both of mysteries and crime as well as literary and general fiction.  Most of the books are the result of 200-300 authors per year coming here for an author event.

What are your favorites withing the mystery genre?

My favorites consist of well written books regards of the subject matter.  I like “police procedurals,” books about private investigators, books in historical settings, hard-boiled books (“noir”), etc.

Do you have any pet peeves or mysteries that just don’t do it for you?

Those that are too formulaic.

How about favorites or books that you really get excited about?

One that is in an exotic location that few have visited and about a period of time particularly interesting and containing important historical characters (in government, music, art).

My favorites consist of well written books regards of the subject matter.  I like “police procedurals,” books about private investigators, books in historical settings, hard-boiled books (“noir”), etc.

  1. So nice to hear from the horse’s mouth itself, so to speak! I have a little file of dream stores to visit when/if I ever have a book out, and I’m adding this lovely store to it…

    Great column, Tom!
